The Fact Finder

What to bring:

  • Your total current expenses (include ALL of your expenses including annual property taxes, food, insurance, rent/mortgage, cell phone, tv/internet, charitable giving, fuel, prescriptions, doctors, dental, etc…)
  • Your total current income (break down each source of income including current income and other income that may not start until later (like pensions), only include real income that is guaranteed for the rest of your life, if it’s not guaranteed income, then it’s ifcome and won’t be counted)
  • Your Social Security payments or payment breakdown (this is needed if you haven’t already started taking your SS yet and can be accessed by creating a free account at www.ssa.gov and will show your SS payments at various ages from 62-70, if you’re married, get this for both spouses)
  • Information on any annuities you currently own (company, type, term, balance, purchase date, fees, etc, all this information should be on your most recent quarterly statement)
  • Information on any life insurance policies for either spouse
  • Information on any long-term care policies that are in force
  • Approximate value of your primary residence and any other property you own if you were to sell it at today’s value and the mortgage amount on each
  • A list of your current asset sources and their amounts (IRAs, 401(k)s, or any other retirement-type of accounts you have along with any after-tax accounts like Roths, non-qualified retirement accounts, cash accounts, precious metals, etc)
  • A list of your biggest concerns in retirement (what keeps you up at night)
